Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On the 17th and 18th of June, a group of Christie and UCLH riders will depart from the site of the Christie Proton Bean Therapy Centre in South Manchester and cycle to the UCLH PBT centre in Central London, over two days - a distance of some 200 miles.
All of the riders from each site are staff, contractors or other stakeholders in the NHS national Proton Beam Therapy Programme, which will provide a new to the UK method of radiotherapy, for approximately 1500 patients, that would otherwise need to travel overseas for their treatment. Proton therapy ensures more precisely targeted treatments that promise fewer side affects and better outcomes for the future of our patients.
The aim of the ride is to contribute to fund raising efforts that will help provide.
- Additional enhanced imaging equipment, including a specialist CT and MRI scanners.
- Build and equip specialist paediatric anaesthetics suites at the heart of each centre, for children who need general anaesthetic, minimising the amount of time patients need to be anaesthetised.
- Build and equip a research room that will enable the centres to develop new techniques to improve treatments for our patients.
I have the great fortune to work alongside the clinical, technical and research team every day, and see first hand both the dedication and skill that my colleagues show not only in the development of the Proton service but throughout the radiotherapy departments as a whole, I would be very grateful if you would consider sponsoring my efforts towards our goals.
