Rowing by moonlight in support of breast cancer charity

During the night of Saturday 10th May thousands of women will be donning their specially decorated bras and walking a marathon course though London to raise money for the breast cancer charity ‘walk the walk’.Aside from raising money, the London MoonWalk also aims to raise awareness of breast cancer and to encourage women (and men) to be as fit as they areable while having fun. Inspired by this ethos, the women from the Isle of Ely Rowing Club are undertaking a Moon row in order to raise money for walk the walk. “Many of us have friends and relatives who have been diagnosed and treated for breast cancer” said Teresa Aslett, the Isle of Ely club captain, “we are keen to do our bit to raise as much money as we can for the breast cancer projects supported by walk the walk and a row by moonlightseems a good way of going about it”.

Departing as the sun sets on 10th May, the women’s squad will row a 26 mile course from the Isle of Ely rowing club downstream on the Great Ouse, though Littleportand Ten Mile Bank to Brandon and back again (twice) under the cover of darkness. Women of all different rowing abilities will be taking part, from those who have rowed at the club since it was founded 10 years ago to those who have only recently started rowing through one of the clubs learn to row courses. “The bra decorating will be the easy bit”, laughed club member Jill McCulloch, “it should be a great night, despite the blistered hands that come with a marathon row such as this”. Donations to walk the walk are welcome through our Isle of Ely women’s squad just giving page:
