Story
In October 2022 Howard was fortunate to run in the London Marathon for the very first time having won a place in the ballot.
The experience of the event left him wanting to it again but this time raising funds for a cause that has affected members of the family.
Howard’s eldest daughter contracted bacterial Meningitis as a child, she was hospitalized, and mercifully received prompt and life saving treatment and made a full recovery. Years later his nephew
at only 1 year old, contracted bacterial Meningitis, there were many days and nights of worry and dread, a truly awful time for all concerned, the baby was put on a ventilator for 3 days, and was in hospital for 10 days. Luckily again, the baby made a full and
total recovery.
It's not always a happy ending, there’s no age discrimination for the disease. The Meningitis Research Foundation, is not just about the research into the disease, but about helping those who have been directly affected, support for those living with the after effects of Meningitis or septicaemia. It's about efforts for prevention, awareness to recognize and diagnose swiftly. Bacterial meningitis kills 1 in 10 who contract it and 1 in 5 who survive it can suffer lifelong disability.
At 64 years of age Howard may not achieve the fastest time but his full focus is to complete the run with the hope that this great cause can benefit from the funds raised allowing them to continue to do their wonderful work. Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
