hike4hunger in the UK comprises a 180 mile (285 km) walk over 7 days (9th - 16th October) along the River Thames from the Cotswolds all the way to the Greenwich Meridian in London.
Participation in the hike4hunger is open to all, be it half a day or the entire hike. It is a great opportunity to stretch your legs, appreciate the beauty and history of this great location and reflect on those less fortunate. Money raised under the hike4hunger name in 2010 will provide food security in Malawi through The Hunger Project. Funds will go towards food banks, agricultural and technological innovations, community farming, diversification and microfinance programmes.
The hike4hunger initiative commemorates 16th October - UN "World Food Day" in the following way:
> a community-led initiative to raise awareness about our global food crisis
> a personal journey by foot to reach a destination on "World Food Day"
> an inspiration for sponsorship and financial contributions to grassroots charities
Hikes will be running simultaneously in Australia, Lebanon, Malawi, South Africa, the UK, the US and Zimbabwe to raise awareness and funds to provide food security in Malawi through The Hunger Project.
