Story

Why Help?

In this day and age:

*1 in 2 women in the UK will suffer from some kind of reproductive or gynaecological health problem
*17 babies a day die in the UK at or near birth (they are either stillborn or die shortly after birth)
*145 women a week in the UK die of a gynaecological cancer
*2 million women suffer the pain of endometriosis
*1 in 3 women will suffer from urinary incontinence at some point in their lives
*1 in 5 pregnancies end in miscarriage
*Women remain embarrassed to talk about these types of health problems, even with their doctors.

What are we doing?

The goal of the Wellbeing of Women Music & Mountains Kilimanjaro climb, is to reach the 5895m/19,341ft summit, collectively raising £25,000 for Wellbeing of Women.

We will be climbing to the summit of Kilimanjaro via the spectacular Rongai route. We will begin our adventure in rainforest, pass through aline tundra and eventually the barren world of the summit crater itself!

Here, internationally renowned artist, DJ Lora will take to the decks on the edge of the crater and play one of the worlds highest gigs to a global audience for a tremendously worthwhile cause!

I am...

"Representing French, Ecuadorian, Mexican and Welsh heritage (with a likely sprinkle of “other”), I am a United Nations mix contained in the body of a Venezuelan (where I am from) and all it’s ethnicity. I’m right in between Generation X and Y- which makes me a XY Cusp – this means I am old enough to remember the beginnings of all the cool current gadgets but at the same time I enjoyed a very different childhood full of outdoors and non-battery- operated toys.

In between study and work, I have managed to live in half a dozen countries and explored many others- as travel is what keeps me going. Two years ago I landed in the UK and have been working in the IT business as a Project Manager ever since.

I am nowhere close to being a seasoned hiker or mountain climber -but I am an experienced enthusiast for challenging my own boundaries especially if it involves a breath-taking view. In March 2014 I will hit the big 3-0 and rather than waiting for it to come with all the associated anxieties –I’ve decided to meet 30 head-on by celebrating 29 years of adventure (and some pitfalls) and closing my twenties in a very high note: Climbing Kilimanjaro – the roof of Africa."
