First of all, thanks for getting this far!

 

On April 22nd 2012, I will be running the London Marathon, a massive undertaking for me (the furthest I have ever run before is 10km!) so your support will be invaluable in getting me through both the training and the race!

 

I am running to raise money for the "OurSpace Appeal", an extremely worthy cause that is raising money to build a new children's and young people's cancer unit at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. As I work on a cancer ward at this hospital, I see daily the impact that cancer has on families, and nothing is worse than seeing young people (sometimes as young as 17/18) having to spend time on this ward, which is mostly full of the over 65s. Seeing a 19 year old girl with leukemia spend last christmas on our ward is undoubtedly one of the most heartbreaking things I have ever witnessed. The difference that this new unit will make to patients like her will be phenomenal, as the unit will provide a separate cancer ward for patients aged 13-24 with special recreational areas with tvs, games and computers, where young people can socialise with others in the same position and just be 'normal' for a while, even though they are in hospital. The OurSpace Project will also build a separate ward for the under 13s with cancer, again providing specialised play areas and allowing children have as 'normal' a childhood as possible.
