Thanks for your time and money.
Everyone has a story, and someone near and dear to them who Macmillan have touched. For me there have been too many over the years. But in particular my Dad.
At the age of 52 he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. He had surgery, complications and radiotherapy. He went into remission. We knew that this wouldn't be the end, there is no cure for this form of the big C, and we were lucky, we had 10 years, most only get 5. Then came the bad news, in Nov 2013 it had come back, far more extensively. The care available was palliative. 3 rounds of Chemo and a round of radiotherapy later and we are nearing the end. All that is left now is for us to sit and hold his hand as we say our goodbyes and watch him slip away.
Words can't describe how we feel, or how much it hurts. Nothing anyone can say takes away the grief and sense of pain and loss we feel.
But the nurses and carers who have been with my dad, helping my mum and youngest sister to look after him and manage his pain in these last few months have been a gift that cannot be repaid.
I would not wish what we are going through on anyone, but please help support us by ensuring that those who do have to follow a similar path can do so with the support, care and compassion that Macmillan bring.
