Story
Dear family & friends,
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In October 2019, I will be traveling with HER Planet Earth's all-female team from around the globe on a 100km trek across Northern Kenya’s remote Matthews range.
The trail has never been attempted before and by foot we will embark with a camel train on a new passage across the mountains.
We will be trekking along tough but varied terrain, including sandy river beds, ancient elephant tracks, old growth forest, plains and hilly peaks.
The expedition will range at altitudes from 3,500ft to 5,000ft (or 1,000 to 1,600 metres) and in daily temperatures that could fluctuate between 10 to 30 degrees Centigrade.
The team will be up before sunrise, walking 5-6 hours every day to reach the next camp and can expect to see big game on the walking safari.
The expedition is in support of Conservation International (CI), a charity that works to protect nature for the benefit of humanity.
Besides preserving nature and wildlife ecosystems, funds raised will be used to benefit local communities; providing them a voice and platform for development of sustainable enterprises and family livelihoods.
Please note that HER Planet Earth teammates have self-funded their personal travel expenses for the expedition and that all donations raised will go directly to support Conservation International's efforts.
For context, here's a list of where your donation will be channeled:
- A girl's monthly school bursary - US$83
- A female elephant keeper's monthly salary - US$230
- A female ranger's monthly salary - US$241
- BeadWORKS 2-day training workshop for 30 women - US$500
- The monthly cost of an orphaned elephant - US$1667
- BeadWORKS workshop training material - US$2000
Your generous donations for an incredible cause would mean so much to all of us at HER Planet Earth and Conservation International.
If you've come this far, many thanks again from the bottom of my heart.
xx Haylena
