What am I raising money for?
As most people reading this page will already know, I am going to South Africa for four weeks to teach maths in Kayamandi, a township just outside Cape Town. The children we will teach are severely deprived - think Lenny Henry's experience in Comic Relief - and the idea behind the Warwick in Africa Scheme, is that we try to change the way maths is taught in our school not just while we're there but indefinitely, giving children access to an education and consequently ambitions they never had before.
I could now ramble on about the incredible things that the scheme does, but I think that in all honesty Lenny Henry will do a far better job of it than I could. So please watch the video that he did for us in the Video section of this page.
How am I trying to raise it?
To help raise the money that the scheme needs I and around 67 other people have decided to do the three peak challenge. A gruelling test of endurance that will mean that I will climb the highest mountain in each of England, Wales and Scotland in under 24 hours.
We will begin by racing up Ben Nevis, then walking to the top of Scafell's Pike and complete our journey by crawling to the summit of Mount Snowdon, consequently collapsing and spending the next few days laying in bed pointing out that Sir Edmund Hillary only climbed one mountain and it took him seven weeks. Two and a half weeks later, we will fly to South Africa for a completely different adventure.
I don't like asking for money particularly, however, this cause is amazing and it needs and deserves as much as it can get its hands on. So please donate, even if you don't feel like it's much, to coin a frequently used cliche every penny counts. More than 100% of your donation (since we claim gift aid) goes to WiA to improve children's lives and every single one of those pennies is stretched further than seems possible. To give you an idea of how far your money goes, the whole Warwick in Africa scheme manages to reach one student for every £16.20 raised. In other words £16.20 gives one more child the chance at an education and a life that they would not have had before.
I'll just finish by saying thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, please donate anything you can... and just so that you aren't worried about donating over the internet I leave you with the small print below...
