We raise money to help treat & beat heart and lung disease

Story

My names Haroon and this is my story-

Going back to 2006 My aunty had her second heart attack. This time round unfortuantely, we lost her. It was such a sad time for me, as i was so close to her, more than anyone in this world. You hear of people passing from heart failure all the time but you never believe that it could happen to someone you know and love.

In September 2008 My father had a heart attack. After the devastation of my aunty i was instantely struck with panic. However, it was quickly diagnosed that he required a triple heart bypass operation. The surgeons and staff of Royal Brompton hospital performed the procedure on September 9th.

Until you are faced with something in life you never give it a second thought. I never realised how much training, time, patience and skill goes into doing their jobs. Royal Brompton has the most amazing staff who genuinely care for the well-being of their patients. I will forever respect them for what they do and i am eternally grateful for what they have done for my father.

On January 29th 2014 i lost my uncle after he had a heart attack in the early morning.

My names Sophie and this is my story-

When my mum was young she got Rheumatic fever (an autoimmune disease in which the body's own antibodies attack different parts of the body). However, it was never found or treated which led to a considerable amount of time having tests in hospitals. She was finally transfered to Royal Brompton hospital, where she was diagnosed and told she would need a double bypass and a mitral valve replacement.

On 8th February the surgeons performed the operation but it wasn't easy. My mum had choosen the bioprosthetic (tissue) valve and after almost completing the operation, her body rejected it. Using their knowledge and skills the surgeons made a decision to put a mechanical valve in. Yes i do mean mechanical, its made from metal and pyrolytic carbon.

Due to the extent of the procedure her recovery time was increased. She didn't wake up for days. Naturally we were all worried about what was to come. The staff at Royal Brompton were very good in explaining what had happened. I'm happy to say that due to their correct quick decision and their incredible skills, my mum is still here today to tell the story.

We want to help everyone who has and will suffer with heart and lung conditions. Pain can destroy a family, but with the help of these world class surgeons people have a better chance of survival. The research teams in Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals require our help to make a difference and help the lives of others.

We can’t change the past but let’s help for the future and raise as much funds as we can. We all take life for granted until we have reason to remember why it's so important.

To everyone that knows Haroon well, they will know he is petrified of height’s. So this seriously is a big issue to him. He will be participating in the UK's largest bungee jump at Bray Lake in Maidenhead on Sunday 24th August 2014. Come along and watch if you want to.

We will also be holding various events with the help of friends, family, collegues and hopefully local businesses and schools. We want to raise as much awareness as possible and of course get donations for the charity. If you would like to find out what else we are doing please visit our facebook page at www.facebook.com/HaroonandSophieRBHHC

We would like to thank you all in advance for helping, supporting and donating, and of course thank you for taking the time to read our storys.
