Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Summer 2013 has been really busy for me! 4 weeks of my holiday alone have gone towards taking part in the National Citizen Service Programme aimed at 16 and 17 year olds. My group, Mi7, chose to promote LOROS' Walk on the Wildside, their annual sponsored countryside walk through Charnwood Forest, Bradgate Park and Swithland Woods as our social action project. We believed that we could make it a real success and set ourselves the target of getting 200 people signed up for the walk! What better way to persuade others to sign up than if we all signed up ourselves?!? So each and every one of us have signed up to do the 7 mile walk, including our NCS team leader Farah!

Within the first week, we vistied the LOROS Hospice in Glenfield to witness first hand the outstanding care and service they provide to terminally ill patients of the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland areas. Most of patients suffer from cancer and are in the final stages of their lives, however other patients suffer from incurable diseases such as Motor Neurone Disease and Lymphodoema. LOROS' care stretches further than just the patients; with care being offered to family members, close friends and carers whom are also suffering from such tragic circumstances.

The bill to provide such high level of care totals almost £7.5 million per annum to cater for the 2,500+ individuals that receive patient care from LOROS. 25 charity shops dotted around the county contribute to the £850 hourly cost to keep the charity running, however they are also dependent on people such as myself that take part in their organised fundraising events.

I've initially set a target to raise £100 as I've previously raised around £80 to walk on fire raising money for orphans in Nepal for the charity Childsmile. Walking through the countryside enjoying the local landmarks and landscapes should be no problem after walking on fire!
