I have the ‘good fortune’ to have been conned into taking part in The Rock Solid Challenge in Escot Park, Exeter (http://www.rocksolidrace.com/) March 15 2014. We are doing the 10K course as a team/group/gang!!

Whilst having been fit in my younger days, I am now somewhat out of shape but have been furiously training for the past three weeks and am sure that, if carried by someone, I could safely make it round the course. There has been talk of taking a defib machine with us just in case, this will probably end up being a small battery and some jump leads!

 Failing this I will have to stumble, crawl and swim through mud under my own steam (and there’s probably flaming hoops to leap through). I would therefore really appreciate your support by means of sponsorship. One of the many reasons for choosing to support The Royal Bristol Children’s Hospital is that a friend and team member has a 3 year old son, Henry, who on the 5th October contracted Ecoli and a disease called HUS which attacked his Kidneys, Stomach and Brain. Henry was admitted to Bristol Children’s Hospital on the 11th October and was in a coma for 6 weeks. Nearly 5 months later there has been little improvement and we await a move to a Neuro rehab centre where Henry can start some kind of rehabilitation to prepare him and his family for his return home to Exeter in 6-12 months. It’s been one of the hardest times ever for the family and I honestly don’t know how I would cope in a similar situation.

They’ve had some amazing support from the Ronald McDonald House in Bristol where they have been provided with somewhere to sleep each night and of course the truly amazing Royal Bristol Children’s Hospital who care for Henry 24/7.

I have two small children and can only imagine what the family deal with on a daily basis. I’m sure some of you will feel the same too.
