The challenge involves a cycle from Lands’ End to John O’Groats, where we will then climb each of the national 'three peaks' to complete the National Three Peaks Challenge within the allotted 24hours. We plan to complete the challenge in eleven days.
A total of 1,000 miles cycling and 27 miles of hiking has been approximated. This averagely equates to 3,100m climbing.
BRITISH LUNG FOUNDATION
We are raising money for the 'British Lung Foundation' to commemorate the passing of James Harrison, Tim Roney, Chris and Karen Pudifoot.
On 7 April 2007 William Harrison's brother James Harrison died from pulmonary embolisms at the age of 20. To commemorate the 10th anniversary of his death, William wants to raise awareness of this condition. A pulmonary embolism is a blockage in the pulmonary artery; the blood vessel that carries blood from the heart to the lungs. They are extremely rare among young people and therefore, often misdiagnosed.
Simon Roney's brother Tim Roney, along with Chris and Karen Pudifoot, undertook a round the world cycle in 2008 in memory of James. Whilst completing the tour Karen (27) and Tim (21) passed away on 24 September 2009 in Ha Long Bay, Vietnam. They were aboard a tourist boat sailing around the world heritage site when it capsized.
Following the passing of Karen, Chris’ sister, and Tim, his best friend, Chris remained at the family home in Northwood to support his parents and younger sister Catherine. On 10 November 2009, Chris (22) passed away in a car accident. To read more click the following link: Karen's Journey
