Story
The Grumpies consist of Roger Ayton, David Bruce, Ken Clarke, Michael Duffy and Nigel Seaman. We decided one evening in a drunken haze to do something energetic for a change and burn off some of our hard-earned fat. So on the 11 September we set off on a jolly, cycling from Penzance to Bristol over four days, with overnight stops at Penruan [where we spent an extra day with Jeff Hurran], Oakhampton, Taunton, finally arriving back in Bristol at 6.00pm on Tuesday 15 Sept. We had a fantastic time in glorious weather, cycling through wonderful scenery and over almighty hills. We are now nursing aching limbs and very sore bums but are still the best of mates!
We are led to understand that men of a mature age can't just do this sort of thing for the fun of it so so we set ourselves a target to raise some cash for Cancer Research Uk. We are doing so in memory of Carole, Jeff's wife, a very close friend who lost her battle to cancer and whose courage and humanity was an inspiration to us all, and in celebration of other dear friends who continue to inspire us and live amazingly active and creative lives thanks to recent advances in medical science in the field of cancer research. With your help Cancer Research UK will continue to make wonderful progress in finding cures for the many strains of this deadly disease.
As for us, well, it was only a few blisters - and we expect very high contributions before we show you those! We'll keep you posted on future trips - Bristol to Bath perhaps?
