Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On the 8th July 2005, Craig was tragically taken from us in a training ground incident at the age of 17, just two weeks after signing his professional football contract with Falkirk FC.
To mark the 10th anniversary of his passing, two teams of 18 (myself included) are aiming to break the current Guinness World Record for the longest 11 a side football match, from the 4th to the 8th July. The current record stands at 72 hours. We aim to raise £37,000.00 (Craig's squad number was 37) for the Sick Kids Friends Foundation on behalf of the Craig Gowans Memorial Fund. The event is to be held at the Spartans Football Academy, Ainslie Park Edinburgh. We will need all the help we can get so please come down and cheer us on.
For myself and all the friends and family taking part, this will most likely be the toughest physical and mental challenge we have undertaken. This is classed as an 'extreme endurance event', and in terms of distance covered, the event has been compared to running 6 marathons in 4 days. Just think of that while you are sleeping in bed and we are....playing football and as it is Scotland, most likely in the rain!
The money raised will help fund enhancements to the new Sick Kids hospital at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France. We’re aiming to raise funds for a state of the art Snoezelen room in Craig’s name. This is a calming room with multi-sensory equipment to provide a relaxing and stimulating space, important for children with sensory impairments.
