Story
Thank you everybody for your incredible support. With Gift Aid factored in, that is virtually £1k raised for Shine. A fantastic effort from you guys. Over to me now. 13.1 miles tomorrow morning. Bring it on!
During the 20 week pregnancy scan, my son Jacob was diagnosed with Spina Bifida. My wife and I were blissfully ignorant of this condition, but on that day those two little words changed our lives.
The Shine Charity were a huge source of support as we came to terms with the news, and moved forward. Their knowledge of Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus is second to none, plus they were prepared to answer our questions that were left unanswered by hospitals.
By the time this event comes around, my beautiful happy boy Jacob will be a 1 year old. I am running for Shine, to help them support other families in similar circumstances, and to spread their Go Folic message which could result in fewer pregnancies affected by Spina Bifida.
Anybody who has known me for a while will understand that competiting in a half marathon marks quite a turnaround in my own personal fitness. Not so long ago I topped the scales at a massive 24 stone. Today, I'm a more spritely 33 year old who has enjoyed running weekly 5k ParkRun events, participated in a 10k race in September and eagerly awaiting the challenge of this longer distance.
