We make lifesaving connections to help more patients survive and thrive

Story

I am attempting the Yorkshire Three Peaks in July. These are the 3 highest mountains in Yorkshire:- Pen-y-ghent (691m), Whernside (728m) and Ingleborough (723m), a route of 24 miles and 5200ft of ascent.

This has to be completed within 12 hours of setting off, alongside a specific route to be recognised as a completed challenge.

Several of us from Parkwood's IT team are attempting this task to help raise money for Anthony Nolan. This charity is the chosen charity of Parkwood Leisure in 2016.

Anthony Nolan is a pioneering charity that saves the lives of people with blood cancer. Every day, they use their register to match remarkable individuals willing to donate their bone marrow or blood stem cells to people who desperately need lifesaving transplants.

Key statistics

  • Every 20 minutes someone in the UK finds out they have a blood cancer.
  • Around 2,000 people in the UK in need of a bone marrow transplant every year. This is usually their last chance of survival.
  • Two thirds of UK patients won’t find a matching donor in their families. So they turn to us to find them an unrelated donor.
