National Three Peaks Challenge · 20 September 2019 to 21 September 2019 ·
Thank you for visiting my JustGiving page raising money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA). By sponsoring me, your money will go towards helping people affected by Motor Neurone Disease (MND) as well as research into a cure.
My Dad, Richard, died from MND in June 2017 just over a year after being diagnosed.
In memory of him, a few of my friends and I have decided to do the National Three Peaks Challenge: a challenge that my Dad would have loved to have taken part in (having hiked up all 3 peaks many times in his life) and one that he would have been very proud of us attempting!
MND is a terminal illness with a life expectancy of anything between 3 months to 10 years. A third of MND sufferers pass away during the first year, with most sufferers passing away around the 2 year mark. MND attacks the motor neurones in the brain that are responsible for controlling movement, which causes the muscles to stop working. This results in the wasting of muscles with sufferers gradually becoming paralysed, but still completely aware of what is going on around them. It is the most evil, unpredictable and unforgiving disease.
There is currently no cure for MND, so your money will go towards vital research into causes and hopefully one day a cure. The MND Association is the only national charity in England, Wales and Northern Ireland dedicated to improving care and support for people affected by MND.
If you can spare a minute to watch this video by the MNDA (it really is just a minute!), it powerfully attempts to convey what an MND sufferer has to go through and why it is so important to support this amazing charity:
