Step out for Stroke, East Park, Southampton · 6 June 2015 ·
I had a major stroke in November 2013 following a severe bout of shingles. The virus attacked my brain resulting in a haemorrhagic stroke affecting my left side with complete paralysis.
With the help of my husband Paul, my family and friends I have come a long way in my recovery and can now walk again after a fashion and have regained some use of my left arm. I am grateful to be alive to tell the tale!
152,000 strokes happen every year in the UK but stroke research is drastically underfunded compared to cancer, coronary heart disease and dementia.
Stroke is the biggest single cause of adult disability in the UK. It is a life-changing event for stroke survivors and their families.
