Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit one of our JustGiving pages.
Our son Angus was born 6 years ago with a rare genetic condition called Ellis-van Creveld syndrome. This resulted in him having problems with his heart and lungs. Despite a long stay in hospital when he was a baby, he pulled through with the assistance of a portable ventilator and oxygen. He was a delightful child - adorable, affectionate, nearly always smiling, unusually compassionate - who enjoyed his life tremendously when he felt well. Anyone who met him felt better for having known him, no matter how brief their encounter. We are so privileged to have had him for our son. We miss him so much.
He spent a lot of time in Yorkhill Hospital. When he was a baby it was more like home to him. The staff were incredible from start to finish. They didn't only address his medical needs, he was also treated with great affection. He would not have turned out so well adjusted emotionally and socially without their special brand of care. When he came home he was cared for, and we were supported by the Ventilation Support Team. They provided specially trained carers who not only dealt with his medical needs but played with him, cuddled him and enabled him to have as normal a life as he could. Because of them he was able to attend school and take part in activities with his peers. He got the most out of life because of this service. We shall be eternally grateful to all those lovely people.
