Story
What am I doing?
I am taking part
in a long distance cycling event between Chepstow and Chester as one of
30, or so, riders. We will be cycling a total of 220 miles following the well
known Lon Las trail for the first 157 miles from Chepstow to Trawsfynedd before
turning right across the Snowdonia National Park and on to Chester. The
ride takes in most of the length and breadth of Wales and passes through four
mountain ranges on the way with a total height gain of around 4,300 meters.
Why am I doing this?
To help raise funds for "Rod's Money for Myeloma" set up by my brother-in-law, Rod Alexander, to raise money for Myeloma UK.
This is Rod's story in his own words:
"In July 2013 my comfortable life was shattered when I was diagnosed with Myeloma, a rare, aggressive and incurable cancer of the bone marrow. In simple terms for me, that means eleven cracked vertebrae, damaged ribs and a compromised immune system. I had seven months of Chemotherapy with the Countess of Chester followed by a stem cell transplant at the Christie in Manchester. I am now six months post transplant and so far doing well although the disease always comes back."
With one study estimating that 97% of people have never heard of myeloma, Rod is keen to increase its profile and warn people about the importance of early diagnosis.
How can you help?
- By donating whatever you can to help raise funds for Myeloma UK to allow research into this aggressive disease; and,
- By clicking on the link below to view an excellent YouTube video and find out a little more about Myeloma and what Myeloma UK will use the funds for.
