Story

I decided to sign up for this challenge to try and make a small difference to somebody else's life by swimming the Solent. Living by the coast all my life the Island never looks that far away, but I know its a treacherous swim, never to be undertaken.

I got in the pool the first week of January and have been training 3 times a week, gradually improving my fitness and strength to be able to achieve the swim trial on the 7th May, which is 200 lengths in 2.5 hours.

Once I have completed the trial, I will up the training and venture into the sea to gain experience dealing with the waves, the saltiness, and the darkness below. I will also have to refresh my Kayaking skills so I am able support swimmers day 2.

The 17th July 2017 I will be entering the water on the Isle of Wight at Ryde Sands and swim to the Gosport Life Boat Station. The following day I will be Kayaking from the Island and back again supporting swimmers on Day 2 of the challenge.

The distance is approximately 3.6 miles, but it will depend on tidal currents, swimming speeds and negotiating the shipping lane.  This is not as easy as it may look or sound; swimming the Solent is not something to be taken lightly or unsupervised as it is dangerous.
