Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit our Justgiving page and to learning about the Moon Row.

This is an arduous rowing event across the world’s largest man made lake, Lake Kariba. The lake was formed by damming the Zambezi River in the 1950’s. Lake Kariba is up to 250 km long and40km wide, the border between Zambia and Zambezi runs along the middle of the lake following the old course of the Zambezi river. The lake contains crocodiles and hippos.Weather conditions on the lake are reminiscent of the sea. The Moon Row will involve a team of 12 rowers from the UK and Zambia, rowing in two triple sculling boats. They will be accompanied by two support boats and a crew providing food, water and medical support. The rowers will swop over every 90 minutes and keep rowing continuously through the day and night . The night time portion of the row will take place in the light of a “Supermoon”, and the whole Moon Row is expected to take up to 48hours to achieve. The row will start on the 10th August 2014 and will finish at Siavonga. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, JustGiving will send your money directly to the charity, so it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
