Story

Thank you very much for taking the time to visit my Just Giving page. I am taking part in the BUPA Great Birmingham Run (Half Marathon) on Sunday 21 October along with Victoria, my daughter, and some of her wonderful friends. All money raised through this page, and other pages set up by other 'Team George' members, will be donated to Birmingham Children's Hospital as part of Georges Heart Appeal.

Why am I doing this? - My 6 year old grandson, George, was born with a serious heart condition, Fallot's Tetralogy. He has undergone several major life saving open heart surgeries at BCH.

Two years ago, George was in a critical condition when his aorta ruptured a few weeks after undergoing heart surgery. He underwent further emergency surgery and thankfully all is now well. He has spent many weeks under the great care of the Intensive Care Unit and Wards 11 & 12 and Victoria and her husband have spent many an anxious hour glued to the heart monitors, waiting to see improvements. She has spoken to the heart unit, and what they dearly need is better heart monitoring equipment for the cardiac wards. The machines cost about £2,000 each and this is where you can help. All money donated will be put towards buying this equipment. Please help with whatever you can.

My husband has also undergone open heart surgery so he and George have much in common and regularly compare their chest scars or - as they call them - Chest Zippers!! I owe much to cardiology surgeons and their teams for saving the lives of two of my dearest family members.

This is my individual page. Other funds donated to 'George's Heart Monitor Appeal, and other individual pages can be found http://www.justgiving.com/teams/fixinghearts. If you would prefer to donate to the wider team, please visit http://www.justgiving.com/run4teamgeorge.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now - you really can make a difference in helping fix children's broken hearts

Thank you, Frances (George's Grandma) xxxx
