Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

On  29th April 2012 I am attempting a bike ride from Biarritz in the south of France to Calais in the north in memory of my mum, Val Williams who passed away of a brain tumor at the young age of 57.

Although in no way directly connected to my mum, I have chosen to do the ride to sponsor the MK Dons SET, as I know that as a charity they do a lot of great work to extend the hand of education to both groups of young and old alike. I know my mum would approve.

MK Dons Sport & Education Trust is the charitable wing of MK Dons Football Club and are responsible for working with all members of the community across the region.  The trust has four main areas of work which are education, participation, inclusion and health & wellbeing.  Each year the charity aim to work with thousands of individuals to support healthier lifestyles, assist people to get involved in sport and to develop and learn new skills to improve not only their everyday lives but also their life chances.

You may ask what the significance is between the start and finish point, but to be perfectly honest there is none other than I figured if I start in Biarritz I get to miss out crossing the Pyrenees which even look pretty formidable on a map to me.

Having completed a ride back in 2010 of over 900 miles after months of training, I have decided to make the challenge a bit harder this time and whilst the distance is only in the region of 700 miles I have streamlined my training to a couple of spinning classes a week. The way I see it although they only last 45 minutes each, if I work pedal harder and faster in the spinning class then it has to be the equivalent of a 70 mile training ride. Time will tell the wisdom of this assumption.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and secure. It is also the most efficient way to donate: MK Dons SET will receive your money electronically and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in Gift Aid will be added to your donation at no cost to you.

Many thanks for your support.

Simon
