Story
So, we've decided to put together a brother & sister team for the Run To the Beat half marathon, raise money for Beating Bowel Cancer and generally challenge ourselves. Well, in this case, Guy is being challenged to run slower than usual to pace Fleur, but Fleur will probably be pushed to run slightly faster... Guy won't overstrain himself like he did last year, and Fleur will probably keel over at the finish line and not annoy everyone with glee. Win-win!
Why Bowel Cancer? Not only is it the second-biggest killer-cancer in the UK, but our granny McGerr was diagnosed with it a number of years ago. Cancer is a horrid disease all round, but bowel cancer is exceptionally unglamorous and even considered embarrassing; and so many people ignore the signs until it is too late. With early diagnosis, this cancer is eminently treatable. Our granny pulled through with significantly less intestine than she had before, but she is a trooper! If it's not caught early, the prognosis is not so good. Beating Bowel Cancer do great work, both in research and support of sufferers, and it's our honour and pleasure to raise money for them.
While both of us are going to run in the well stylish Beating Bowel Cancer red vests, Fleur is going to go all-out vintage with some sort of fancy up-do and matching red lipstick, plus something high-waisted on the bottom half. Guy will just look normal and not like a mentalist. But running in a 'costume' makes it even more important to smash it! We're aiming for a 2 hour time.
Please consider sponsoring us: even £2 will help. UK friends, don't forget to add GiftAid on for nowt! You can use Paypal, so even European, Former Colonial, Antipodean and other international friends and fans can contribute, should they so desire. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
Fleur and Guy xx
