Beerathon · 18 August 2012
The summer of 2012 will see London host a selection of the greatest athletes on the planet. Warriors who have forged their bodies and minds in the furnace of the gym and competition. Discipline, focus and an iron will are their bread and butter. They dine on pain daily - and gold medals come out the other end.
Now the best of them step forward to take part in an epic struggle. Only the strongest can enter this battle of the Gods. The Beerathon.
5 Miles of gruelling jogging, 5 pints of cold, fizzy liquid and 5 delicious pies must be bested for these three to rise as champions and be crowned Kings of the Beerathon! Huhroo! Huhroo! Huhroo!
Years of careful preparation and planning have gone into this event and Dean, Tommy and James would appreciate it very much if in recognition of this - you could make a small donation to an incredibly worthy cause, The CATS Foundation.
The Cure and Action for Tay-Sachs Foundation (CATS) was created by the parents and friends of a little girl called Amelie who was diagnosed with Tay-Sachs in March 2011 at the age of 15 months.
Having received the shocking news, Daniel and Patricia spent many hours searching for information about Tay-Sachs and trying to find a support group they could contact. In the US there are two brilliant charities called Cure Tay Sachs and NTSAD who have funded a lot of research and support for families for many years. The work they have and continue to do through fund raising has not only helped put a cure in reach, but they have also provided awareness of the disease.
Within the UK, where Daniel, Patricia and Amelie live, there is only the excellent CLIMB charity who provide support to Tay-Sachs affected families. CLIMB cover all metabolic diseases and it was felt that a more specific charity focusing on Tay-Sachs was required.
So, after a meeting with the leading research team in the area of Tay-Sachs based in Cambridge who are led by Professor Tim Cox and with the support of CLIMB, the Gaucher Association (another metabolic disease charity) and of course other parents in a similar position, THE CATS FOUNDATION was born! Steve Whale built and launched the website very quickly so that we could all begin raising the awareness of the disease and begin fund raising.
