St Cuthbert’s Hospice provides specialist care to people with life-limiting illnesses, people approaching the end of life and the bereaved. We make no charge for our services, ensuring Hospice care is available to everyone. It costs over £2 million each year to keep St Cuthbert's Hospice running.

Story

We want to support our local hospice in continuing to achieve their amazing misson of improve the quality of life and preserving the dignity of adults in North Durham with life-limiting illnesses, by delivering expert care and support, as well as supporting their families and carers.

Sarah and I are both staff nurses and have experienced the loss of loved ones from a terminal illness and have seen the benefit and differnece a hospice can make, making an unbareable time bareable.

The local Primary Care Trust provides some of St Cuthbert's hospice's funding, with the remaining £1,200,000 raised through the generosity of local people who make donations and support the charity shops and fundraising events.

What those costs mean:

  • Each overnight stay at the hospice costs St Cuthbert's Hospice £370 per person
  • The Day Hospice sessions costs St Cuthbert's £150 per person
  • The hospice provide their services free of charge which means that they must raise more than £4,300 every day to ensure that St Cuthbert’s Hospice can continue to provide the services needed by local people.
