Story
We, the Team Giles ladies will be donning our outdoor wear and embracing the great outdoors in a bid to raise some cash for the Royal Marsden charity. The money we raise will go directly into researching Kidney Cancer. We will be walking a 10 mile route of the aptly named Marsden Moor on March 15th. The terrain is moorland and rather exposed so of course we'll be hoping for a bit of decent weather however we'll be packing Great British grit and determination in our backpacks either way!
Ladies joining me on our adventure are;
Rachel Fowler, Ursula Price, Tricia Abbott, Nicky Nee, Ali Richardson, Helen Giles, Melissa Mountford, Laura Jones, Julia Wilson, Hannah Dickinson, Lesley Conboy and Anna Greenwood.
Michael Giles (my husband) is currently being treated at the Royal Marsden as part of a clinical trial for Renal Cell Carcinoma.
As part of the trial Michael has to be scanned every 8 weeks. Whilst waiting for the last scan results a few weeks ago I noticed a poster advertising the Royal Marsden annual charity walk from Chelsea to Sutton (between the two hospitals) while we couldn't make this event- being from Yorkshire like! I made a promise (to myself and thus the universe) that if we received good news I would organise a charity walk by way of saying thank you for the treatment so far. Michael has been treated at the Marsden since September 2013 and the treatment is ongoing (subject to all going well). So far the treatment has gone well however we have no idea what the future holds but feel it's important to retain good karma and recognise the good work in the fight against cancer that this hospital provides.
Life can still be tough for us but (thanks to the Marsden) we keep our hope and fight. You can read more about our cancer story on Michael's blog @ www.diaryofafadman.blogspot.co.uk
