This month of September marks Sepsis Awareness Month – a
cause very close to my heart and here’s why… On January 10th 2016, my world was turned upside down following the very sudden death of my lovely Dad, Roger. In the days leading up to his death, he had not been right at all, and unfortunately, along with a hospital misdiagnosis, the odds were against him.
He quickly deteriorated and at 07:15 on Sunday 10th January, my lovely dad fell asleep for the last time. Following his death and a hospital investigation, we eventually discovered that it was Sepsis that caused his sudden passing - something that could have potentially been avoided. Sepsis accounts for 44,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast cancer, bowel cancer and prostate cancer put together. Sepsis is the acute bodily reaction to infection. Symptoms initially present as flu like but can rapidly deteriorate into a life threatening condition.
