Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

As  many of you know, our beautiful daughter Emilia was stillborn on 09th November 2017, this was a day that changed our lives forever.

In memory of Emilia, I have decided to gather a team of warriors and take on the "Warrior Assault" challenge that is taking place in Bangor on Saturday 18th May 2019. We will be raising funds as a team to enable us to buy a new cold cuddle cot which we will be giving to the Ulster Hospital's maternity ward in Dundonald.

After our beautiful daughter was born we were lucky to have been offered a cold cot which granted us 5 amazing days with our daughter. The cold cot system cools a baby and can be placed in a Moses basket or crib by the mothers bedside, allowing families to stay with their baby instead of the baby going straight to a mortuary. This is something we will be eternally grateful for because otherwise we would only have been given a few hours with Emilia.

The time spent with a baby after a stillborn or neonatal death allows parents and family to form an important bond with their baby. A cold cot can help in preserving a baby while the mothers recovers from the delivery and prepares for the valuable moments spent with their child, whether parents and relatives spend time changing a nappy, dressing the baby, taking photographs or simply staying close by, a cold cot will give the opportunity to keep their baby next to them and create memories of their time together, which in turn can help families to cope with their loss.

All the funds raised will be designated for the purpose of buying a new cold cuddle cot for the Ulster Hospital Maternity Ward in Dundonald.  Once this is fully funded and its target reached any excess will be donated to Sands NI.

Sands NI will spend the excess where the need is greatest, helping Sands to continue to deliver its vital services to support anyone affected by the death of a baby, to improve the bereavement care received by parents and families, and to promote research to reduce the number of babies dying.

I hope you can help by donating whatever you can manage,

Thank you to all the amazing Consultants, Doctors, Nurses, Midwives and health care professionals who looked after us during our time of need in the Ulster Hospital's Maternity Ward, This is simply a way of me saying thank you for everything you done for us.

Many thanks

William
