Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
On Sunday 17th September, four freudians (Arlo, Ellie, Meryl and Charlie) are cycling from Somerset House in London to the shores of Folkestone to raise money for Blue Marine Foundation (BLUE).
We are taking part in the first leg of BLUE's London to Monaco Cycle ride - an intense 117km ride over the course of one day. For four London office-dwellers this is set to be an uphill task and we would be so grateful for your support!
BLUE is an incredible charity which does amazing work in ocean conservation. freuds has had the pleasure of working closely with the charity for some years and we now want to (quite literally) take a more active role in raising funds for its cause.
The London to Monaco cycle ride is raising vital funds for BLUE's impactful projects across the world. To find out more about BLUE's work visit: www.bluemarinefoundation.com
We would appreciate any donations, however small, to help raise as much money as possible for such a worthwhile cause
Thank you!

More information on BLUE:
BLUE was founded in 2010 by the team behind the award winning film, The End of the Line, which drew the world’s attention to the dangers of overfishing. The UK-based charity exists to fix the largest solvable problem on the planet – the crisis in our oceans.
Overfishing undoubtedly presents a major food security issue and has
devastating effects on our plant’s fragile biodiversity. Around 90% of global fish stocks are fully over-exploited and approximately 90% of all large fish have disappeared. The consequences of this plundering are far-reaching, not only in terms of food provision for a growing global population, but because healthy oceans absorb half the CO2 we produce.
BLUE believes the crisis of the oceans is a global emergency but one with a simple solution. The UK-based charity works to establish networks of large-scale marine reserves and sustainable fisheries to allow fish stocks to recover. Its mission is to safeguard 10% of the world’s oceans by 2020 and 30% by 2030 (as it stands, only 4% is under protection).
Over the last 6 years the charity has achieved notable successes in
marine conservation:
- In 2010, BLUE catalysed the creation of the world’s largest fully protected marine reserve in the Chagos.
- In 2015, as part of the Great British Oceans coalition, Blue persuaded the British government to create an even bigger reserve around Pitcairn.
- More recently, BLUE secured funding for a marine protected area around Ascension Island in the Atlantic. BLUE, as part of the Great British Oceans Coalition successfully facilitated the closure of 52.6% of Ascension Island’s waters to fishing from January 2016
As well as working further afield, BLUE has introduced a series of
initiatives to the UK.
- It has developed best-practice sustainable fisheries in local communities such as Lyme Bay in Dorset to demonstrate how livelihoods and ocean conservation go hand in hand.
- BLUE is also currently restoring the native British oyster to the Solent – adding 5 million to the waters in a 5 year project with the view to creating a self-sustaining oyster population to bring
environmental and economic benefits to the area.
