Story
Exciting news! I have been contacted by an enthusiastic Castle Drogo supporter who has kindly offered to match fund whatever I raise up to my target of £1,500. This means that if I reach my target, we will have raised enough money to refurbish both the Scullery windows. Amazing.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I am very grateful for the support that everyone has been giving me.
I moved to hilly Devon two years ago from the flatlands of East Anglia. But now the big skies are calling and it is time to return. I have made the 350 mile journey dozens of times, mostly by train. But rather than standing on platform number 5 at Exeter St. Davids for the last time, I thought why not walk?
For the past fourteen months, I’ve had the once in a lifetime opportunity to live in Castle Drogo as part of my full time volunteer role. It has been a wonderful experience and, as my way of saying thank you for the fantastic opportunity, I would like use this walk as a way of raising money for the ‘Save Castle Drogo’ appeal. The Castle is battling for its survival as the building suffers from leaks! I would hate to see this big piece of granite crumble into ‘another’ Castle ruin – and besides its still only a hundred years old, let’s give it a bit more of a life first.
The Scullery is one of my favourite rooms. To refurbish one of the Scullery windows will cost approximately £1,500. Therefore I would like to raise this amount to help fix the windows in the Scullery. The pictures attached show the changes the leaks are causing, which has become much more visibly serious over the past few months. The roof in the Scullery has now been propped and the original windows removed. I would love to be the person that makes reinstating the original windows possible.
All donations will be going directly into the 'Save Castle Drogo' fundraising appeal.
More information about the appeal can be found on the Castle Drogo website and on Facebook
