The National Eisteddfod, one of the world’s great festivals, is held from 4-11 August at the old Llandow airfield near Cowbridge, in the Vale of Glamorgan.
Music, dance, visual arts, original performances, family activities – there’s something for everyone at the National Eisteddfod.
The Pink Pavilion is the focal point of the ‘Maes’, where the official competing and main cultural ceremonies are held, but there’s hundreds of other activities all over the Maes throughout the week, and with up to 300 stalls and trade stands, it’s a shopper’s paradise, with gifts of all kinds to suit every pocket.
You don’t need to speak Welsh to enjoy yourself. There’s a warm welcome for everyone at the Eisteddfod. Pick up your free translation equipment from the booth near the Pavilion to follow official activities, and find out more about learning Welsh by popping into Maes D for all the information you’ll need.
There’s something for everyone on the Maes, with plenty of activities to keep the whole family entertained all week.
We have a number of smaller pavilions with a packed programme of activities, y Lle Celf, Theatre, Science and Technology, Dance, Literature, Societies, Maes D, a live performance stage, as well as the Pink Pavilion itself. Entry to all daytime activities here are free of charge with your purchased Maes ticket.
The National Eisteddfod is dependent on the goodwill and support of the general public, and much of our activities and events are able to happen, thanks to the generosity of local fundraising groups wherever the Eisteddfod is held.
The festival costs £3.4 million to hold every year, and the financial prizes and financial contributions of our supporters are pivotal to the success of each Eisteddfod.
Like many other organisations in Wales and beyond, the economic downturn affects the National Eisteddfod. Much-needed funding such as corporate sponsorship and income from tradestands can be hit when times are hard.
This is where you can help us to secure the Eisteddfod's future, and to provide a firm footing for the only festival which promotes the Welsh language and the culture of Wales to people of all ages.
There are many ways in which you can help the National Eisteddfod, from practical help by volunteering during the week, to donating a prize or setting up a regular financial contribution to help us with our work.
We are grateful for all support, and ensure that your contribution makes a difference to our unique festival, the National Eisteddfod of Wales.
