Story
Hello
Our team
are passionate about renewables and we love cycling, this June we will
combine the two by taking part in the in the Earth, Wind and Tyre cycle
challenge.
The 13th and 14th of June, we will cycle 214 miles
between Durham and Edinburgh via seven wind farms to raise funds for Renewable
World, an international charity that works with rural communities in Africa,
Nepal and Central America, developing and providing simple but innovative
solutions to energy poverty.
Susie Lind, Christophe Banos, Don MacKay, Rupert Judson, Federico Damico, Jim Pearson, Jeremy Bailey, James Wilson, Graham Slater and Christian Egal will form the EDF ER team alongside with 40 riders from the renewable industry.
By sponsoring us you will be supporting some great work and making a huge difference to the lives of people living in energy poverty.
Our appeal makes particular sense as the communities Renewable World work with in Nepal have been severely affected by the Earthquake which has recently hit Kathmandu and the surrounding area. Fortunately, the Renewable World staff and their families are safe but we expect large scale damage to the systems we have installed: water pipes broken, hydraulic pumps out of order, solar panels cracked, and water tanks damaged and leaking.
Without energy fishermen cannot refrigerate food, farmers cannot pump water to irrigate crops, and girls miss school to collect firewood and water. Introduce a supply of clean energy and suddenly farmers can grow cash crops in the dry season, fishermen no longer have to sell their fish at below market rates and girls get the education they deserve.
Renewable World works with communities to develop small scale renewable Energy systems (such as solar, wind, hydro and biogas.) to encourage self-sufficiency and to alleviate poverty.
All technology is sourced and installed through local partners and the projects are implemented by local teams. This sustainable approach means that communities can develop long term solutions that work for them.
Renewable world needs your support to continue this valuable work. If you would like to support the team and the Renewable World campaign, please make a donation.
Thank you,
Team EDF-ER
