Firstly thank you for looking at my charity challenge "in aid of Dementia UK"
For my challenge I will be riding my 35 year old Ducati motorcycle "cafe racer" the "Duck" as i call her. END2ENDX2. The route which starts on the 17th April 2014 at 9.00am from "Jacks Hill cafe" in Towcester, will cover approx,. 1800 miles equal to two end to end journeys.
I will ride solo from Towcester up to John O Groats (Scotlands most northern point), down to Lands end and then back to Towcester`s "Jacks Hill cafe". This i hope will take me about six days as it is not a race challenge. Saying that i will still have to cover 300 miles or more per day on a "boneshaker" of an old motorcycle. Also face what ever Scotlands weather would like to throw at me. I have my fingers crossed that the winters snow has gone from the Highlands roads. I hope to travel via as many of the old A roads as possible, stopping at transport cafes for rest, food and hot drinks to keep me going.
I would like to promote and support through the donations from my challenge Dementia care. This needed care and support is close to my heart. It is in memory of my late Mother who passed away suddenly in late 2013 after a seven year battle with dementia.
People who are facing or are living with dementia will know it is a very hard and long battle. Carers and families need as much support, advice and knowledge of the illness as possible during very difficult times.
I may not be running, walking or cycling the route but after the festivities of Christmas i will have to get fitter and lose some weight....Mmmmm! With a history of two slipped disc`s, two dodgy hips and also some would say "passed my prime", you can see why i am not running the route. I will have to get used to the idea of being in the saddle for six to seven hours per day. That is why they call these challenges "Iron butt".
I hope through this page or "facebook" (as the young ones call it) to update those that would like to know how the challenge is going, day to day reports on how far i have travelled and where i am.
Please give as much or as little as you can through this donation link so as i can reach my donation goal and help others who are facing a far more "difficult journey".
The trip is 100% self funded and "all" of the kind donations are going 100% (plus Gift Aid) straight to Dementia UK, to help people facing dementia.
To fellow motorcycle owners, please note if you make a donation here you can also say "whats your ride", "who you follow" or "where your motorcycling allegiances lie".
Thank you again for looking at this charity justgiving page.
