Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Please note - this challenge is for the BUPA 2011 Great Edinburgh Run - October 2nd 2011
My son Robbie has just turned 6 years old, a couple of years ago we noticed Robbie was having a small problem with his right arm, and after a visit to the doctors we were referred to the Victoria hospital Kirkcaldy, then eventually on to the sick kids hospital in Edingburgh to a neurological consultant. After many months whilst Robbie progressively got worse with muscle spasms affecting his legs and back, he was eventually diagnosed with Dystonia. Currently we are waiting on a referral to a hospital in London to look at the possibilty of a deep brain implant, which hopefully will help Robbie's stability and mobility... Fingers crossed.
Robbie is like his Dad an avid East Fife fan, so c'mon the Fife followers... dig deep :)
This is a rare condition currently affecting around 68,000 people of all ages in the UK.
Initially support was difficult to come by due to the small number of people affected, however after many months of torment and stress, our family has found a group along with helpline, to both inform and give us a feeling of not going it alone.
To help support this charity is my primary objective in taking on this 10k run in October, I hope everyone will dig deep and give a little, as any donation is appreciated, please feel free to sponsor me folks as I say even if only a small amount all proceeds will go to the Dystonia society and the help others.
