The story of her death was picked up on by several papers, giving her sad death a political slant, to the offence of many, including myself, causing an online backlash against the story.

According to her parents' quote in the local news report, Sophie ran Race For Life & I just thought it would be a more positive use of our collective energies on Twitter to have a collection in her name for Cancer Research UK, rather than her memory to be used as part of a mud-slinging match from all sides.
