Considering a Justgiving subscription?
Here are the most frequently asked questions:

1. What do I need to do to get started? Does my IT team need to get involved?
Because our donation services are hosted on our own secure servers, you do not have to upgrade your own website or install new software on your office computers.

All you need to do is create a link on your website (or a prominent button or banner) to direct visitors to your Justgiving-powered services to make donations or build personalised online fundraising pages.

2. When does the monthly service charge get taken from our account and do we have to pay by Direct Debit?
Direct debit reduces the administration time and cost for both charities and Justgiving, as opposed to the monthly exchange of invoice and cheque.

You will be sent an invoice on the 1st of the month. The money will leave your account on or shortly after 25th of the same month. Your bank statement will show ‘Access Europe’. ( which is the company who processes our Direct Debits).

However, we do appreciate that some charities may not be able to work with Direct Debits so you can choose to receive an annual invoice. We will then invoice you for the whole year (to end of December), and in those cases a cheque will be payable 30 days after invoice.

3. How do your transaction charges work?
We take our transaction charges from the gross donation made to your charity (ie the amount including any Gift Aid). However, if the person making a donation is a UK tax payer we will only take out our transaction fee at the point of reclaiming Gift Aid. Therefore you will usually receive the net donation first, in the example below £10, and our transaction charge and the low bank credit or debit card processing charges come out of the Gift Aid that we reclaim for you.

How processing fees affect a typical donation:

  Visa
Credit Card
MasterCard
Credit Card
Maestro / Solo Debit Card Visa Delta / Visa Electron Debit Card
Donation £10 £10 £10 £10
Tax Reclaim £2.82 £2.82 £2.82 £2.82
Justgiving Commission @ 5% of donation + Gift Aid £0.64 £0.64 £0.64 £0.64
VAT @ 17.5% £0.11 £0.11 £0.11 £0.11
Visa credit card fee @ 1.34%* £0.13   -
Mastercard credit card fee @ 1.4%*   £0.14
Maestro/Solo debit card fee @ £0.22*     £0.22
Visa Delta / Electron debit card fee @ £0.23 * -     £0.23
Total cost to charity £0.88 £0.89 £0.97 £0.98
Net donation £11.94 £11.93 £11.85 £11.84
* This fee is charged by our card processing partner, Barclays.

4. How do you reclaim Gift Aid?
We have streamlined every aspect of the Gift Aid process in such a way that every eligible donation made online automatically attracts the 28% bonus. Crucially, our system automatically generates and maintains an electronic audit trail on your behalf, saving your charity considerable administrative costs.

The only aspect of the tax reclaim process that requires your involvement is the signature of a form by your trustees allowing us to reclaim Gift Aid on your charity's behalf.

A list of donations relating each Gift Aid claim can be found in the ‘Gift Aid Analysis’ section in ‘Your Charity Account ’.

5. How often do we receive donations and Gift Aid?
Your donations are electronically transferred by BACS to your specified bank account. Sums of over £100 are transferred weekly; smaller amounts are transferred every month. We will reclaim tax when your charity has collected £100 of Gift Aid or twice a year whichever is more frequent.

The balance will hit your account as a lump sum and a breakdown of all donations can be found in the ‘online reporting’, under ‘payments’.

6. Do my supporters need any technical knowledge to create an online fundraising page?
Building fundraising pages is very simple and all your supporters need to do is fill in boxes online and upload any picture they may have, or select one from our image library. A fundraising page is typically built in a few minutes and can be updated just as quickly.

7. How do I know how much has been raised or donated to my charity?
Every charity client on Justgiving receives a password- and PIN-protected account enabling them to track all their donations and donor details along with the status of the tax reclaim carried out on their behalf by Justgiving. Each transaction has a unique reference number allowing it to be traced through all our reports. All reports are easily exported by Excel into your existing databases.

8 . How secure is the service?
We provide the highest levels of security at every step of donation processing. In partnership with Barclays, we use industry-standard Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology. It encrypts donors' personal information, including card numbers, names and addresses so that it cannot be read as it travels over the Internet.

All Justgiving servers reside at a world-class Internet data centre under maximum security conditions and 24-hour supervision.

9 . Do I need to thank donors after they have donated online?
Every donor automatically receives an email confirming their donation. We have included a space in this email for you to thank them personally for their contribution. You can customise this message through your secure account online, and it provides the ideal opportunity to provide a link to your website, a phone number, an email or anything giving them the opportunity to have further communication with you.

10 . What are the benefits of your Premium Personal Fundraising solution? Are the differences only cosmetic?
Our Premium solution offers you a fully bespoke and customised service for you. If you want a service where users will not be able to tell they are leaving your site and changing to a justgiving hosted site, this is ideal. It also allows you to receive more benefits such as - online event registration, additional data capture fields and co-branding opportunities for co-sponsors and corporate partners.

If you would like to see a presentation of these major differences and how they could work for your charity please email charities@justgiving.com

Existing customer? Here are the ten most frequently asked questions about the Charity Account.

1. Can I receive more than one login?
Justgiving will provide you with one admin level login to get started. This admin user can then create as many other users as needed by using the ‘add, modify, and delete users’ functionality from within the Charity Account.

2. What is the difference between an admin user and a standard user?

Both admin and standard users can view reports online and change their own passwords. Admin users have the additional abilities to add, modify, and delete users, as well as being able to change the ‘thank you’ message that your charity sends out whenever a donation is made using Justgiving services.

3. Can there be more than one admin user?
Yes. You can set up as many admin users as you require. However, we advise that you have no more than three admin users at any time.

4. What happens when someone leaves?
If the person leaving is a standard user, their account can be easily deleted by an admin user, using the add, modify, and delete users functionality. If an admin user is leaving, please email finance@justgiving.com with their account details—we will delete this account for you.

5. When do I receive my money?
Payments are made by BACS and will be credited to your charity’s bank account three banking days after the payment date.

6. Can I login from anywhere/Can I create a shortcut?
You can login from any location where you have Internet access to secure pages (shown in your browser by “https” in the address line, or by a small lock symbol on the status bar in the bottom right hand of your browser window). To create a shortcut to your Charity Account, choose ‘add to favourites’ from the top menu bar on Internet Explorer, or ‘add bookmark’ from the top menu bar on Netscape.

7. Is the Excel output secure?
Your downloadable Microsoft Excel reports are generated from within the secure area of the Justgiving site, which uses SSL encryption. Only your Charity Account users can view these reports.

8. I don’t have Excel-- what do I do?
If you do not have Excel, you can save the reports in HTML format to your desktop and open them in Microsoft Word. If you are still having problems, please contact us.

If you are interested in purchasing Excel, you can find out more about Excel at http://www.microsoft.com/uk/office/excel/

9. How do I download my Excel reports?
Just click on the Excel link at the top of your HTML Invoice/Remittance Advice statement. You can then choose to open the report, or download it to your hard drive.

10. How do I personalise my thank you message? And when do donors receive this message?
Admin users only can modify your thank-you message by choosing ‘change thank you email’ from the ‘email management’ menu in your Charity Account. This message goes out to your donors whenever a donation is made using Justgiving services and to the individual event participant pages.
