Story

This is a tale of two fat, yet fit, forty something men and their search for enlightenment .................. about themselves.

The Absa Cape Epic 2010 Mountain Bike Race takes place 21 - 28 March 2010. Approximately 800km with over 49,000 ft  of climbing.

Thoedore Roosevelt, the twenty sixth president of the United States in a speech given in Paris 1910 summed up the purpose of Derek and John's 'journey'.

'It is not the critic who counts, not the man who points out how the strong man stumbled, or where the doer of deeds could have done better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena; whose face is marred by the dust and sweat and the blood; who strives valiantly who errs and comes up short again and again, who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions, and spends himself in a worthy cause, who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who, at worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring to greatly; so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory or defeat.'

On our exploration, we will drop into many dark valleys and crest many high peaks. In each circumstance , we have a strong pool of friends who will share these highs and lows and who are as important a part of our journey as the event itself. This is our story.

Aberlour is focussed on giving young people across Scotland their opportunity in life to be all they can be.
