I am supporting the Lauren Currie Twilight Foundation in their efforts to raise money for research into Wegeners Granulomatosis and to fund the Aberdeen Support group for all Vasculitus patients which will launch March 3rd 2012..
Much research is done here in the North East and we are ahead in many ways regarding treatment and diagnosis of such a rare disease!
Lauren was a beautiful 15 year old with her life ahead of her and sadly her diagnosis was not discovered in time for her to respond to the treatment which she needed to gain remission and retain her health.. Her parents Grant and Adrienne work hard to raise awareness and fund research into the disease which claimed the life of their only child... I know of patients with this incurable disease and without the Lauren Currie Twilight Foundation there would be limited support for patients in the North East..
I have had Wegeners Granulomatosis for 3 years now and went into acute renal failure and have been left with stage 3 kidney disease.. I was diagnosed in time and given life saving treatment. and remain in remission via daily immunosupressant drugs...Luckily I remain very well and have maintained a level of fitness that others will never have due to damage and constant ill health..
I joined the Aberdeen Wheeler Cycle Club and with their ongoing support and friendship I have kept my passion for cycling and have a blast of a life riding! I am as a personal challenge taking part in the Etape Caledonia this year which will see a cycle of 80 miles in the Pitlochry area.....
I appreciate any donation made to the foundation.. This is a very rare disease which needs research.. Maybe even a cure someday!
