Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I started running in March 2017 to relieve exam stress! It's become addictive - I'm not a great runner but I enjoy the freedom, the fresh air and 'me' time. And I secretly love getting all sweaty!
My running buddy suggested I create a type of bucket list ahead of my 50th birthday - 50 things to do before I'm 50. So I added a half marathon - and then we entered the Perkins Great Eastern Half Marathon 2017!
I didn't want my race to be just about me though, so I decided to run in support of the Alzheimer's Society, which holds a very special place in my heart. I'd never heard of Alzheimer's disease until I was 15 when my beloved nanny was diagnosed following many years of us all thinking she was just a forgetful old biddy!
Earlier this year, I trained as a Dementia Champion, to help raise awareness of dementia and people living with dementia, throughout our workplace and frontline staff. The Alzheimer's Society is Carlisle Support Services' (my employer) nominated charity and we have a target to raise £15,000 before the end of 2019. Anything I raise will go towards our overall target.
I'm so proud to be doing this and so glad my buddy made me do it! I don't care if I finish the race in my targeted 2hr 30m or more - I will finish it in memory of my nanny Mabel.
