Anyone who knows me well will tell you I’m not an athlete by any stretch of the imagination, and I’d have to agree with them. However, on 26th May 2018 I'll be setting off to Cardiff Airport to cycle 25 miles as one of a team of over 300 people who will taking it in turns to ride alongside a friend who has set himself the challenge of riding an average of 80 miles every day for 7 months, (that's 18000 miles in total) around the virtual world, to raise a phenomenal amount of money to support various cancer charities.
That 25 mile ride is a tiny challenge compared to that faced by people fighting cancer on a daily basis. Unfortunately I'm not fit enough to run half marathons or sprint up mountains, but I have set myself a number of smaller challenges. The first was to run 5k every day in July - unfortunately my legs had other ideas, so I' had to re-set that to 5k in at least 25 days in July. In September I ran a Race for Life 5k Pretty Muddy event, followed a week later by a 10k race. In November I added the 10k Mo Run to my list of achievements.
I have so many friends who have been directly and indirectly affected by cancer, and their bravery never ceases to inspire me, and make me realise that a small physical challenge to help raise much needed funding for research, is nothing at all compared to their bravery. If you can spare even a couple of pounds to support me, it would be so much appreciated.
