Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my LC4 Corners of GB JustGiving page.

I am a co-director of CBTRC, having been involved in its initiation in 1997 and its subsequent development.  As a doctor I treat the children every day and see the problems they face with their families.

My work with research partners across the world allows me to see how we can contribute to an improved future through research into different aspects of the problems they face.

As a previous full participant in LC1, and leg rider for LC2 and 3, I know the scale of the physical challenge in LC4.  It does not compare, however, to the challenge that every child and their family endures from the moment they start with symptoms of a brain tumour, are diagnosed, treated and then recover and make plans for their future lives with all the consequences of this experience. A brain tumour diagnosis threatens every aspect of living including survival itself.

In the past 2 decades we have come a long way, improving cure rates, raising awareness, enhancing scientific understanding, applying new treatments and technology to clinical practice.

This journey will take 14 committed individuals into realms of physical commitment for this cause that they have not previously encountered.  Every day of their 16 day journey they will feel the level of challenge that these children and their families experience daily for the rest of their lives.  At the end of the journey that challenge will have been translated into money and enhanced awareness, with your help.

At CBTRC we will convert that to ground breaking research, training opportunities for research leaders of the future and the acquisition of intra-operative MR machine for Nottingham Hospital, the first of its kind in UK.

Thank you for your help, keep us aware of your interest, let others know of our journey to 4 Corners of GB in support of Children's Brain Tumour Research at University of Nottingham.
