Story
I grew up in the East Midlands, Sutton in Ashfield, and since I was around 9 or 10 aircraft were one of my great obsessions. Born out of seeing the magnificent Vulcan, or the majestic Lancaster flanked by the Spitfire and Hurricane flying overhead whilst sat fishing with my Dad on the rivers and ponds around Lincolnshire and East Nottinghamshire. I subsequently enlisted in the Royal Air Force and served for 31 years, (aircraft maintenance). I was introduced to sailing whilst serving, and took to it like a duck to water. and sailed for quite a number of years. My last sailing adventure was an ocean crossing from Singapore to Cape Town, S Africa, in 1999, this took a total of 35 days. On arrival in Cape Town I was asked by a reporter if I would ever do such a journey again, my reply was along the lines of, "Yes, but not for a little while, ......., and in a faster boat." So here I am a little while later...... in a faster boat.
I will be crewing on 5 Legs out of 8 of the Clipper 2019-20 RTW race and sailing for a total of 29,000 miles in all the oceans of the world and spending around 143 days at sea in total.
