Story
Hey everybody, Thank you for taking a few minutes to check out my page. So in April of this year I will undertake the mighty challenge of riding through the beautiful but challenging terrain between Hanoi in Northern Vietnam to Ho Chi Minh City in the south. This 1200 mile adventure will take me and my fellow riders 27 days to complete. This will be by far the hardest challenge I have ever been involved in and so your support will be an amazing motivator.
This challenging undertaking is to support a collection of fantastic charities here in Vietnam. These charities include Saigon Children's Charity (www.SaigonChildren.com), The Children's Initiative (www.ChildrensInitiative.org), ILA Community Network (www.facebook.com/ILA.CommunityNetwork), KOTO Saigon (www.KOTO.com.au), and Live and Give (www.LiveAndGive.eu). All these Charities do great work at supporting children in various ways throughout Vietnam, a country where low income rates mean children can be born into severe poverty. These Charities help give some of these disadvantaged children a better start in life.
Our main partner this year is Saigon Children's Charity. The SCC aims to help disadvantaged children in Vietnam to reach their full potential through receiving a quality education relevant to their needs. The SCC is distinguished for giving scholarships, building schools, running a vocational school in Saigon and working with other, smaller organizations that focus on children with disabilities. They enable over 3,000 children to go to school everyday in Vietnam! Its area of operation is in the south of Vietnam, around HCMC, the Mekong Delta and extending to the Cambodian border.
Another great Charity we are supporting is www.facebook.com/ILA.CommunityNetwork. The ILA Community Network (ILACN), is a group of volunteers that aims to make a real difference to the lives of disadvantaged children in the local communities in which ILA operates. The ILACN sends its donations to The Green Bamboo Shelter (ex-street boys aged 7 – 18), Go Vap Orphanage (200+ orphaned children, mainly disabled), The Ung Buou Cancer Hospital (Children’s ward, upwards of 150 in-patients), The Little Rose Warm Shelter (vulnerable girls, aged 11 – 18) and the Bung Sang Blind Shelter. ILACN supports the centers through regular fun days and trips, teaching English, funding essential equipment, improvements and repairs, projects that improve the environments and prospects of disadvantaged children and enable access to education and vocational training. They also raise awareness in Vietnam and internationally.
I should inform you that this month long journey will be entirely self funded so not a penny of your donations will support me personally but will all go to the charities on this page. I really hope you can make a donation, however small, as this will be a great motivation to me and an even greater support to these fantastic charities.
I will be blogging my experience so a blog address is soon to follow. Also if you have interest in following what the team is doing then you can follow this link www.h2hrfvc.blogspot.com
