Story
In 2014 I was diagnosed with breast cancer aged 33.
Before I understood what that meant, and I thought there was a possibility that I might not get better, one of the regrets I had was that I had never run the Manchester 10k. (I have NO idea why, but it really bugged me!)
I have known many people who have done this run, and as I am incredibly competitive, I hated the fact that I hadn't been able to do it. As many of you will know, I have always hated running, its my nemesis. Despite being relatively fit before my diagnosis, I could never run, not even 5k let alone 10k. I remember going for a walk with Graeme after surgery and saying that if i ever got better I was going to run the 10k.
I still hate running, but I try and remind myself how much I longed to be able to exercise when I was sore from surgery and exhausted from chemo and that I should feel lucky that I am physically able to . I still struggle, but I have now managed over 6k so should be on track to complete the Manchester run, even if it will be slowly.
To have a bit of fun after the Great Manchester Run, I have also signed up to the Tatton Park Pretty Muddy event with some ladies I met whilst I was having chemo who are part of the 'Wobbly Walkers' Macmillan Walking Group. As a team we range in age and experience of Cancer, and with varying levels of fitness, I think it will be a wobbly run, but definitely fun.
I am supporting Breast Cancer Now who are researching all kinds of breast cancer related things, but especially into "triple negative" cancer, which is what I had and doesn't currently have any targeted treatment, and also secondary breast cancer, to which I have lost too many friends over the past 12 months (all under the age of 40).
Anything you can donate will be greatly appreciated and will add to the £1500 money I raised earlier in the year for the Christie, Breast Cancer Now and Beechwood.
Thank you
