Story
Hi Everyone. My name is Danny and in April I will be cycling from Hanoi, in the north of Vietnam, to Saigon in the far south. Its 2000km and it will all be done on a bicycle.
I will be one of 20 riders raising money for a number of children's charities around Vietnam. You can read more about them below. I'm taking a month off work, and will be covering all the expenses myself. That means all money donated will go straight to the charities. Each rider is expected to raise $1000, and if you're feeling generous please donate. Thanks very much.
About the charities:
As you may know, Vietnam is a relatively poor country, and many children here don't have the same opportunities that we're used to at home. The Saigon Children's Charity aims to help disadvantaged children in Vietnam to reach their full potential through providing a quality education relevant to their needs. The SCC is distinguished for building schools, giving scholarships, and working with other smaller organizations that focus on children with disabilities. They enable over 3,000 children to go to school everyday in Vietnam!
Our main partner this year is Saigon Children's Charity. The SCC aims to help disadvantaged children in Vietnam to reach their full potential through receiving a quality education relevant to their needs. The SCC is distinguished for giving scholarships, building schools, running a vocational school in Saigon and working with other, smaller organizations that focus on children with disabilities. They enable over 3,000 children to go to school everyday in Vietnam! Its area of operation is in the south of Vietnam, around HCMC, the Mekong Delta and extending to the Cambodian border.
One of the partner charities is KOTO, www.koto.com.au
KOTO stands for “Know One, Teach One”: learningshould be passed on; knowledge is there to be shared. This is the essential idea of KOTO’s founder, Jimmy Pham, a Vietnamese-Australian who more than 10 years ago opened a training center in hospitality in Hanoi, giving disadvantaged youth the possibility to learn and strive in their lives.
