Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page for Aerobility.
As some of you may or may not be aware, I'll be running (hopefully not walking or crawling) the New York marathon on 6th November. I have never come close to tackling a marathon before and as I am sure you will all appreciate, I am not exactly built for long distance running!
The training has been a long and sometimes tough process (I am sure some of you will have seen me grimacing and cursing whilst plodding along the pavements!) but I have enjoyed it. I have also had the great fortune of being coached by Lee Merrien and his guidance and help has been invaluable; I don't think he is too worried about me challenging him for a place in the Olympics though!
I am now desperate to get to NY and give it my all.
I didn't actually sign up to do the NYM for charity however I have had many people asking about how they can sponsor me. It therefore seems a waste to not raise money for Aerobility.
Aerobility is a charity offering disabled people, without exception, the opportunity to fly an aeroplane. For some, just that amazing first flight is enough to change their outlook on disability forever - "If I can fly a plane, what else can I do?" Aerobility provides 'experience of a lifetime' trial flying lessons for as many terminally ill and disabled people as possible every year and also offers subsidised flying days for other disability charities.
As an 'aviation nerd/geek' (as my colleagues and friends affectionately like to call me) and having been fortunate enough to have completed a fair few hours piloting, being up in the air in a light aircraft and seeing the world from a different perspective really is an amazing and unforgettable experience. Being in control of that light aircraft takes the experience to the next level and I can fully appreciate and understand how this would boost a disabled person's confidence and help them to believe they can tackle anything and touch the sky.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and if you do choose to donate, thank you for your kind generosity. My trip to NY is fully paid for by myself and the charity will not be funding me in any way.
Many thanks again...
