Story
On Sunday 21st June, team DeTerMination will be taking to the muddy banks of the River Dee, Chester in participation of the 11th Annual Chester Dragon Boat Race Festival and are hoping to raise a generous amount in support of their chosen charity; Wirral Hospice St John’s.
About the event and the team
The Dragon Boat Festival will consist of three qualifying races with the first race taking place at 10:00am. The fastest four teams from these races will then be entered into the Grand Final which will take place at 15:30pm. Each race will require a maximum crew of 17 people; 16 paddlers and 1 drummer – which is the most important role, as it is they who will set the pace for the race.
Our crew will consist of staff, spouses and offspring! The aim of the day is to have fun whilst raising awareness for our nominated charity Wirral Hospice St John’s which is very close to one particular crew members heart, Tom Evans, whose mother died at the tragically young age of 46.
Tom said: “The care which my mum and our wider family received from the hospice made a huge difference to our lives at a very difficult time. I’m really pleased that I and my colleagues will be able to help the charity care for other families in the same way.”
